Sandy Beach

Tulum Beach Club is a boho-styled beach club on Avenida de Playa Serena in Roquetas de Mar, on the Almería coast. From the street it looks unassuming; inside it opens out into a relaxed space with sunbeds and Balinese beds alongside the dining tables.

Cocktails are the headline. The food menu leans on daily specials such as hake, alongside fresh pizzas and a shared meat platter built for a table rather than a plate.

The atmosphere is unhurried and comfortable, with music as part of the setting. It works as easily for an evening of cocktails as for a full dinner.

Playa Serena

Playa Serena runs for 1,780 metres along the Costa de Almería in Roquetas de Mar, backed by the town's golf course. The sand is coarse and grey rather than fine; the water shelves gradually and the waves stay moderate, and in season the beach fills without being packed.

Sunbeds and parasols are for hire on the sand, and nautical rentals work from three marked channels. There is a lifeguard and first-aid post, showers with footwash and toilets, and the access is unusually well equipped: reserved parking, ramps, a wooden walkway, an amphibious chair and assisted bathing. Behind the sand runs the Paseo Carmen Sevilla, with a fountain, palm trees, shops and bars along it.
