Sandy Beach

Chiringuito El Velero is a beach bar and restaurant on the sand of El Bajondillo beach in Torremolinos, opened in 1965 on the Paseo Marítimo. The dining room sits under a domed ceiling of fine wooden coffered panels, carried on columns decorated with small mosaics. Outside, a tropical garden of palms, flowers and plants spreads over the sand around four lit ornamental fountains. The menu covers local tapas, fresh fish and meat, with calamari and sardines among the dishes, backed by a large wine cellar. On the beach, El Velero runs its own lounger service and rents out pedal boats. El Bajondillo is one of the four official beaches of Torremolinos, with dark sand.

Playa El Bajondillo

Playa El Bajondillo is a dark-sand urban beach in the centre of Torremolinos, lying between La Carihuela and Playamar. The municipal listing gives it a length of 1,292 metres and a width of 40 metres. The swell is moderate and conditions are good for swimming. Sunbeds can be hired, there is a shaded area, pedal boats and water sports are available, and lifeguards are on duty in the bathing season.

Showers, footbaths, toilets, an accessible shower, a children's playground and a sports area are on the beach, and assisted bathing with amphibious chairs is offered to people with reduced mobility. A promenade lined with chiringuitos and restaurants runs behind the sand, and a lift and stepped lanes such as the Cuesta del Tajo climb to the town centre above.
