Chiringuito La Charca

4.2

Sandy Beach

Chiringuito La Charca has been run by the same family for fifty years on Playa de la Charca, the beach below the hilltop town of Salobreña on Granada's Costa Tropical. It stands first in the row as you come onto the sand, which gives it the pick of the views along the bay.

The house dish is Pulpo Salobreña, the local octopus preparation the place is known for, but the menu covers the full chiringuito range: rice dishes and paella, fried and grilled fish, seafood, tropical salads and homemade desserts such as tiramisù, with mojitos and a varied cocktail list alongside. Drinks come with tapas, so a plate of prawns or olives arrives unasked. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available on the beach in front.

The tone is relaxed and family-friendly, and the dining room unfussy. It works equally well for a long lunch between swims or a quiet dinner as the beach empties.

Playa de la Charca

Nestled in the heart of Salobreña on the stunning Costa Tropical, Playa de la Charca is a gem for those seeking a blend of relaxation and scenic beauty. The beach is famously overlooked by "El Peñón," a massive rock that is easy to climb and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the sparkling coastline and the white-washed city above. The Mediterranean waters here are remarkably clear and calm, making it an inviting spot for a refreshing swim or a peaceful day soaking up the sun.

What makes this beach particularly appealing is how well-maintained and accessible it is. While the sand has a unique gritty texture, it remains comfortable to walk on as you head toward the shore. Visitors appreciate the thoughtful amenities, including functional foot showers, clean public toilets, and the presence of attentive lifeguards during the summer months. Parking is a breeze too, with plenty of spaces available right across the street, ensuring your trip starts without any stress.

When hunger strikes, you won’t have to go far. The promenade is lined with fantastic seafood restaurants and chiringuitos where you can savor the fresh catch of the day right by the waves. Whether you’re enjoying a family outing or a quiet solo escape, Playa de la Charca offers a welcoming, authentic Spanish seaside experience that captures the very best of coastal living.
