I had the salmon, which tasted good, and a “ratatouille” — though it was more like simple vegetables in a very greasy, oily sauce. The fish was well-cooked and the vegetables were decent for the price. However, I found a large fly and several smaller insects in the vegetable sauce, which was quite disgusting. My friend ordered a burger — the cheese wasn’t melted, the bun was cold, and there were hairs in the food. Overall, the taste was okay for the low price, but unfortunately, I found the beach restaurant to be unhygienic and of a generally low standard. Just because it’s inexpensive doesn’t mean this kind of experience should be acceptable. We did point out the issues to the staff, and to be fair, the waiters — who were not at fault — were very kind and accommodating. They offered us free drinks three times, but since we had to drive and couldn't accept them, they instead gave us a 50% discount on the salmon. While this didn't change the fact that the food itself was disappointing, the staff really did their best to make up for it, and we appreciated their efforts. I usually never leave reviews, but this experience was so shocking that I felt I had to share it. It’s a shame, because the staff were mostly very friendly and the location is pretty — but unfortunately, the food just didn’t live up to even basic expectations. (I ordered the salmon with vegetables and i got it wirh fries at first, that’s just a small mistake that can happen sometimes. Just so you know why the service didn’t get 5 stars.)

Such a great find! 🌊☀️ We’ve visited this beach several times now and it never disappoints. The food is always lovely—fresh, tasty, and wide choice. The staff are consistently friendly and welcoming, which makes such a difference, and there’s always a relaxed, feel-good atmosphere. Perfect spot to unwind by the sea. We’ll definitely be back!

A Hidden Gem by the Sea – Where Quality Meets Tranquility Tucked just steps away from the gentle waves of Estepona’s coastline, Chiringuito El Velerín is one of those rare finds that quietly wins your heart — and keeps you coming back. From the moment you arrive, the setting speaks for itself. Spacious sunbeds under neatly maintained parasols, a wide stretch of golden sand, and the soft hum of the Mediterranean create a calm, unpretentious atmosphere that instantly invites you to exhale. It’s the kind of place that feels local, loved, and just far enough from the buzz to feel like a true escape. What truly sets El Velerín apart, though, is its value-for-money approach to quality. The menu is refreshingly simple, yet every dish we tried delivered exactly what one hopes for at the beach: freshness, flavour, and generous portions. From the perfectly grilled octopus with pea purée to the tender calamari with fries and the buttery clams in white wine, everything tasted honest and well-prepared — no gimmicks, just great ingredients treated with respect. Even the classic avocado and prawn salad came beautifully presented and balanced, while dessert (a rich, moist carrot cake with creamy icing and vanilla ice cream) was the perfect indulgence to close the meal. Add to that attentive yet relaxed service, friendly staff who genuinely care, and a surprisingly good cocktail list — and you’ve got one of the most enjoyable beachfront dining spots on this side of the Costa del Sol. We came for a relaxed lunch and stayed much longer than planned, enjoying the uninterrupted sea views with a cold drink in hand. Whether you’re a local, a returning visitor, or someone newly discovering Estepona, this is exactly the kind of spot that reminds you why you fell in love with the coast in the first place. No glitz, no rush — just good food, kind service, and that unmistakable charm of a place that gets it right without trying too hard. 🌊☀️ Highly recommended.

Went there twice with my family. A classic Chiringuito and actually it is one of the best we went to. We ordered Gambas pil pil, tomato and onion salad and aubergine with molasses. And for mains, the first time we ordered wood fired turbot, grilled squid and sea bass and on the second visit we ordered a seafood paella for 4. The starters were excellent. The paella was amazing, the turbot was outstanding.... A definite favorite.

Beena few years ago, short walk from tge main road, limited parking but park on the opposite side and get accross using pedestrian bridge. loved the paella negros but the standard paella is also excellent. Book beach chairs and make it a day out.
